Overview

Piney Point Grill and Seafood Bar, nestled within the Hilton Doubletree at 2515 Meridian Pkwy in Durham, NC, stands out as a reliable haven for seafood lovers and those craving comfort fare with a twist. This spot offers a blend of classic and contemporary dishes in a warm, inviting setting that caters to both hotel guests and local diners seeking quality and convenience without leaving the premises.

The restaurant’s seafood offerings are a clear highlight. Fresh fried calamari greets you with a satisfying crispness, setting the tone for what follows. The Chicken Danielle, an elegant surf-and-turf plate combining sautéed chicken with jumbo shrimp and scallops in a delicate white wine dill sauce, is a favorite for its rich flavors balanced perfectly with freshness. Equally noteworthy are the shrimp and grits and the Piney Point salad with salmon, each dish showcasing careful preparation and a focus on ingredient quality.

Beyond seafood, the menu is versatile. From hearty ribeye steak sandwiches and buffalo wings to build-your-own pizzas and crisp Caesar salads, Piney Point offers dishes that cater to various palates. The breakfast service holds its own with veggie-packed omelets and fluffy stacks of pancakes, making it a place suited for any meal of the day.

The atmosphere at Piney Point Grill is convivial and relaxed. The bar serves as a social hub where locals and travelers alike gather. Regulars commend bartender Kevin, who adds charm and personality by remembering patrons’ favorites. This creates an engaging community vibe rarely found in hotel restaurants. Service across the board is attentive and warm, enhancing the dining experience without feeling intrusive.

Its convenient location inside the hotel appeals especially to business travelers, convention attendees, and visitors connected to the nearby university. The mix of a casual dining area and an intimate bar space means the restaurant caters well to both casual gatherings and quieter, more reflective meals.

While a few customers have noted minor inconsistencies—such as a slightly salty teriyaki wing or pizzas that could feel reheated—these moments are exceptions in an otherwise dependable dining option. The menu offers enough variety to encourage repeat visits, whether one is in the mood for seafood, a solid burger, or just a satisfying salad.

In summary, Piney Point Grill and Seafood Bar successfully balances accessibility with quality. It provides a welcome refuge for travelers needing a dependable meal and locals in search of a neighborhood haunt. The combination of well-executed dishes, personable service, and a lively yet approachable space makes it a standout choice in the Durham dining scene.

I travel to Raleigh on biz very regularly since my home office is in the area (previous IBM building). When I'm In Raleigh/Durham I exclusively stay at the Doubletree because of this restaurant. The bar tender Kevin is a local favorite and is fantastic behind the bar - he remembers what everyone drinks!! Have a seat at the bar or the restaurant and have a social conversation with other folks staying at the hotel. Everyone from airline folks to people in town for a convention or a college football game. My point is the atmosphere is wonderful with great people including the staff. My favorites on the entree is the chicken Danielle which is actually like a surf and turf, followed by the shrimp and grits. That said, I also had the Pines salad w Salmon and that is pretty fantastic as well. Fried calamari is super fresh and delicious as well. Literally, I haven't had anything here that I didn't like AND, if you're staying there, you don't have to drive anywhere! or order room service, cuz you can!! I'll come back here again and again.

20250204 The Piney Point Grill is inside the Hilton Doubletree restaurant. So it was convenient in that I was staying at the hotel. For dinner, I had a salad and grilled salmon with rice pilaf, all of which was good. For breakfast, I had scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, bacon, sausage, coffee, and orange juice off the buffet. The buffet may have been a bit overpriced for what I had; nevertheless, everything was warm/hot without being overcooked.

Met a friend for dinner. Great customer service and atmosphere! The Ceasar salad was outstanding and the wings were good. My pizza was just ok as it seemed reheated or maybe frozen. Will return to try other items. Drink specials are great!

Food came quickly with plenty of refills! My server was Wonderful! Checking on my progress regularly and seemed genuinely concerned that she was doing all she could to make my visit as positive as possible. I came from a different hotel to eat there because the reviews were favorable. So I decided to try it myself and glad I did! Everything tasted Wonderful! The service was the icing on the cake. Keep up the Good work!

We used this restaurant for the breakfast only & it was DELICIOUS! Very prompt service & everything was prepared perfectly, especially the pancakes. It was very convenient to have a great breakfast on premises. The restaurant also looks like a great place for drinks or supper because whenever we walked by in the evening the patrons were all having a good time. Now I wish we would have stopped in for drinks. Great job!
